Based on issues encountered in building client websites, ACS underwent a re-write (ACS 4), adding some nice new features.

- abtract URLs
- nice database access API
- pervasive templating
- form manager
aD completed 3/4 of the rewrite before hearing the Java siren song. The OpenACS community then adopted the ACS 4 version and have continuted development.
